Art Challenge 2010
Art Challenge 2010
Are you an artist?…a dabbler?…a professional maybe?
Or something a little more unusual?…abstract perhaps?
Well here’s an opportunity to showcase your work along side other accomplished artists.
I’m looking for amateurs, professionals; anyone accomplished in their particular style and medium. I know there are many undiscovered artists out there who are well able to meet this challenge and it is those, as well as the accomplished, who I want to recruit.
If you’re aged 14 and over, and you fancy a challenge, then read on.
I’m inviting anyone with an artistic flair to be part of my project to reproduce an image which when assembled, could be more than 10 times bigger than the original. If you ever watched Rolf Harris fronting a programme for the BBC a couple of years ago then you will already be familiar with this concept. But if not, here’s how it works.
A mystery image is dissected into multiple sections and every section is then allocated to a registered artist. Using their preferred medium, each artist must reproduce an enlargement of their allocation to an exact dimension. On completion artists deliver their work to the designated assembly point.
Registering

Online Registration:

The logistical parameters of this project, not only limits the final assembled dimensions, but also the number of sections and consequently the number of required artists. It may also become necessary to close registration earlier than anticipated if interest exceeds the practicable; this would be posted on www.watercolour-crow.co.uk However, every effort will be made to accommodate as many registered artists as possible by extending the limits to the safest maximum. It is inevitable that some artist will be not be allocated a section. In this case, the remaining registered artists will be retained on a reserve list, and could still be called on at the eleventh hour to cover the unexpected, should the need arise. So your registration will be a valuable resource which could in fact save the day. In return for this co-operation and commitment you will be guaranteed an allocation at a subsequent event, if this is your wish. Registration fees of the “redundant” artist’s will be transferred to the next event.
The dispatch of allocated sections will start in early January 2010 and will include: your section of the mystery image, the exact required dimensions and the completion and delivery dates. Also included will be a contact number for artists to use for advice, guidance or to report anything that could threaten completion.
However you reproduce your allocation it is imperative that dimensions are rigidly observed as any deviation will seriously hinder the final assembly and its completion. Bear in mind your details will be displayed along side the mystery image and any digression could attract negative and undesirable interest.
As your section of the mystery image may not display your true talent you are invited to hang one piece of your own work which more accurately reflects your true style and ability, it may also be offered for sale at this event, and will be subject to 10% commission on the advertised price.
St Andrew’s Church, Bugthorpe will host the final assembly over the 2010 August Bank Holiday weekend as part of the 2nd Bugthorpe Open Studios Event. It will begin early afternoon on Saturday 28th and complete on Monday 30th. There will be a per person entry fee to view the assembly as each added section slowly reveals the mystery image.
And finally, I guess many will be asking “Where’s Bugthorpe???”
Bugthorpe is a tiny rural village in the East Riding of Yorkshire at the foot of Garrowby Hill, just off the A166. It comprises of 44 dwellings and is home to five individual artists and craftsmen as well as many other talented residents and friends. The village is part of the privately owned Halifax Estate and, contrary to belief, like all other villages strives to retain its facilities from the many unsympathetic and damaging influences. Its past residents and custodians have been unyielding to these challenges and the same resistance is upheld by the current occupiers.
Hence the launch of ART CHALLENGE 2010.
Bugthorpe’s five village amenities are the planned benefactors of monies raised through this event which are School, Playgroup, Church, Village Hall and the Parish Clock Fund, and I sincerely hope this won’t dilute your interest. This is a showcase for Bugthorpe; to encourage new life into our village, a promotion of all our facilities, especially the unbroken early learning chain through Playgroup to Junior School, which receives high praise annually from Ofsted inspectors.
Art Challenge 2010 will provide the appropriate advertising platform for every artist and craftsman associated to it. Their details will be prominently displayed in return for their contribution with the intention of attracting favourable, and hopefully, lucrative interest.
So be enthused…..join this merry band and enjoy our village.
You may even want to stay!!
