Art Challenge 2010 Update

Welcome back……this is update number 5.      Dated: 17th May  2010

I’m relieved – to say the least – that all the sections have now been distributed to my registered artists, some of whom, I gather, have already finished. Me? Well, I’ve probably got the simplest section of all, but I haven’t even got started yet. The truth is; my section was just too simple to issue to anyone else. It comprises of 99% sky, ½% cloud and ½% of what appears to be a roof. And that’s as much about the picture as I’m going to reveal.

I can tell you that I was struck by the dominance of ochre tones present in the majority of section’s which, when viewed individually, could suggest a sombre nondescript picture, but in fact, it’s a light, bright open scene. A cheeky little twist has been carefully choreographed to introduce a smidgen of humour.

All will be revealed over 28th, 29th and 30th August, the Bank Holiday weekend.

You’ll need to see it……and tell all your friends too!!

Rob

Welcome back to update No:4            10th May 2010 (13:00)

Well, all but one of the 54 sections have been allocated, so I need just one more artist to complete the mystery image. That’s assuming there are no other surprises. With that in mind, it would be useful to have a coule of artists in reserve to cover such an occurance and I’d be pleased to consider  any recommendations. What about  your relatives…are they into art?

When do I want these sections back in Bugthorpe? Preferably during the week commencing 23rd August 2010. I’m hoping to build the final screen the weekend before to iron out the inevitable hitches and I’ll use dummy boards for a dress rehersal some time during that week, but you won’t need to be involved. All this of course is subject to church services, though I doubt it would clash with our small congregation. If the dates, 23rd onwards, clash with your other commitments I’m sure we can arrange alternatives.

Don’t forget if you want a board pre-cut to the exact dimensions, let me know as I have a few spare to date.

Also if you have a business website let me have the details and I’ll add it to the Artist or Sponsor lists. It’s FREE advertising!

Best wishes

Rob

Welcome back to update No:3            15th April 2010 (21:40)

…And they’re off!!

Look out for your envelope on the mat from Friday 16th April onwards!
If yours hasn’t arrived by 3rd May, let me know as soon as possible.

When it does arrive, return to me the email I sent you, at your earlist convenience, as confirmation of  your sections arrival.
Any other questions…call, write, phone or email.

Just want to say many, many thanks for getting involved, and I sincerely hope the conclusion brings you due reward.

Very best wishes

Hello Artists, Sponsors and all other interested parties.

Welcome back……this is update number 2.

Dated: 10th April 2010

Not long now……all the sections have been numbered and your instructions prepared, now it’s just a matter of pack and despatch.

I think I’ve covered all that’s important but if there’s anything you’re not sure of, just get in touch and we’ll work it out!!

The mystery image is made up of 54 sections and so far 48 have been allocated, that leaves 6 up for grabs. I am currently waiting for two expressions of interest to mature then we’ll be down to just 4. So if any of your friends or associates are still dithering, give them a prod!!

Ok, I know I’m nagging, but this is important. You must make certain the board you use is exactly 38cm x 35cm. The finished depth, or thickness, ideally should be 12mm. So if your chosen medium is likely to increase the depth, compensate by using a thinner board. I have a stock of MDF pre-cut to the required size ready for you to collect if you prefer. But remember to tell me you’re coming!!

Keep checking in to this update. If you have any queries don’t hesitate to ring, write or email.

Just a couple of small observations that came to light recently during a conversation with an accomplished pastel artist, who warned me of the difficulty of fixing this particular medium securely. As a consequence, if you chose pastels as your prefered medium but now decide you would like to change, do so. This won’t compromise the project at all. Same applies to all other artists - please don’t feel oblidged to stick with your first choice, use whatever you want!!

And the second point. Please don’t encapsulate or laminate your reproduction. This will compromise the finshed screen.

Kind regards

Rob Crow
